Fire chief retires after 70 years
Fire Chief Jim Hamblin will be retiring this coming February — making it an even 70 years he’s served in the Indian Valley Community Services District fire department.
News of his retirement has been cause for speculation the past few months. Confirmation of the decision was made July 24, according to an IVCSD press release.
Hamblin began his service with the department January 13, 1948. In its early years, he was the chief steward for the district.
A retirement party is planned for the chief Sunday, Sept. 24, at the Greenville Community Park at 1 p.m. There are no further details for the event at this time.
For the remaining months of his tenure, he will serve as a mentor and training officer, according to IVCSD General Manager Chris Gallagher.
