Fire weather watch in effect this week
The National Weather Service has issued a Fire Weather Watch from 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14, through 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 16, in Plumas County. Gusty northerly and easterly winds are possible. Low daytime humidity and poor overnight recoveries are also expected during this timeframe.
PG&E has announced that it is considering public safety power shutoffs for some areas of Northern California this week.
The strongest winds look to first develop on the western side of the Sacramento Valley, including portions of the Coastal Range, Wednesday morning with winds picking up in the mountains and foothills Wednesday evening continuing into Thursday morning. Gusty winds increase again Thursday night into Friday. The combination of wind, low humidity, dry fuels, and above normal temperatures may result in critical fire weather conditions. Extreme caution should be taken to prevent new fire starts.
This affects the Northern Sierra including Lassen National Park and Plumas County west of Beckwourth Peak.
