For safety reasons, consider adopting your nearby fire hydrant

With all the recent snow that has accumulated in Plumas County, Quincy Fire Chief Robbie Cassou is encouraging residents to consider adopting their nearby neighborhood fire hydrant.

Addressing a problem that is countywide, Cassou said “As an all volunteer fire department with over 200 hydrants in the greater Quincy area alone, there is simply no way for us or any other special district to have the manpower needed to remove the snow and maintain a clearance around  these hydrants.”

“With the county road department’s limited staff licensed to operate the snowplows, they are clearly doing their best just to keep the streets cleared. But with this heavy snowfall, now it make sense for all of us to pitch-in and help where necessary,” he said.

Ideally, he is asking residents to take it upon themselves to shovel the snow around their nearby hydrant creating a 3-foot clearing around it with open access to the street.
