Fred Vierra Sr.
Fred Vierra Sr. peacefully passed away on June 6, 2021 at the age of 96 in Chico, CA. Fred was born in Santa Clara on February 2, 1925. He lived his entire childhood in Santa Clara before he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942 to serve in WWII. He honorably fought for his country as part of the infantry stationed in France and Germany.
Upon his return to Santa Clara in 1945 he took up work as a carpenter. In 1948 he married his wife of 66 years, Dorothy (Araujo) Vierra. Fred and Dorothy had 2 sons, Fred Jr. and Steve. They raised them in Santa Clara until 1960 when they moved to Yuba City to live and work as ranchers. In 1965 the family of 4 moved to Chester, CA to own and operate a local bar called The Bear Club. They eventually sold the bar to buy and run the Sierra Motel where they happily lived until 2014.
As a long-time resident of both Santa Clara and Chester, Fred was well known as a business man, a golfer and avid walker. He took an evening walk every night with his wife up and down Main Street. Fred is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, and 2 younger sisters, Genevieve Vieira and Agnes Harlow. Fred is survived by his youngest sister, June Luth, his 2 sons, Fred Vierra Jr. (Donna), Steve Vierra (Theresa), his 3 granddaughters, Jennifer Martin, Traci Vierra, Lisa Vierra-Linares and his 2 great-granddaughters, Jaidyn Vierra and Quinn Vierra-Linares. Fred and Dorothy will be laid to rest side by side on October 9, 2021 at Mission City Memorial Park in Santa Clara, CA.
