Hard earned progress made on the Beckwourth Complex
The morning of Saturday, July 17 brought a brief update regarding the Beckwourth Complex.
The virtual update opened to dramatic footage of crews working through the night with chainsaws to establish lines around the fire, battling the flames with headlamps and perseverance.
“That’s just to show you what these crews are doing while we sleep at night- that’s the level of concentration and work going on out there through the night and into the daylight hours,” said operations section chief Jake Cagle.
The Beckwourth Complex is currently at 105,348 acres with 70 percent containment.
Along the Maddalena Road area and out to the 395 corridor, everything remains in its current footprint, with no issues. The footprint also remains in place for the Doyle area and Sugar Loaf area.
“Through the Meadow View and Dixie Mountain Ridge system, resources last night tied in the line of containment with that clip of what you saw them doing,” Cagle explained.
“There is now containment line around the whole thing- now we move to relentlessly mopping up with round the clock oversight. We’re not out of the woods yet, but we have containment line and we’ve closed that gap on the eastern flank.”
Crews will be mopping up through today and into the night moving forward and will continue to focus on a contingency plan to stay ahead of any potential rising winds and spotting.
