Higher flows to be released on North Fork

Water flows will be higher than seasonally normal along the North Fork Feather River between Canyon Dam and the Belden Reservoir from May 11 through about May 20, Pacific Gas and Electric Company announced May 7.

PG&E is urging those recreating in or near the river to use extra caution during the increased flows.

The higher than normal flows will occur along the 10-mile stretch of river between the dam that forms Lake Almanor and PG&E’s Belden Reservoir at Caribou in Plumas County.

Flows along this stretch of river are normally about 50 cubic feet per second (cfs) below the dam during May, but will range from about 1,200 to 1,600 cfs through about May 20.

The flows will be higher due to hydroelectric operational needs and to ensure safe water levels at Lake Almanor with the abundant snowmelt.
