Highway 70 remains closed, efforts continue to reopen it
Just in case you were wondering, Highway 70 remains closed to through traffin Butte and Plumas Counties due to slides at two locations between Belden and Twain.
- West of Rush Creek Road, between Belden and Twain (Plumas County, approximate post mile 22.7): Good progress has been made since last week. Rock scaling operations are currently completed and slide material removal continues.
- Just east of Belden (Plumas County, approximate post mile 15.2): Area remains active. K-rail has been installed and slide material on the roadway has been removed. Safety assessment and recommendations continue for the fractured slope and trees above the roadway for continued restoration efforts.
While there remains no current estimated time of opening the highway, Caltrans and contractor continue operations and safety assessments to resume through route access. Motorists are advised to continue to choose alternate routes. Inclement weather is planned for mid to late next week, which may slow operations or cause additional activity.
