Holiday tradition continues at CRC
C. Roy Carmichael Elementary School and Eastern Plumas Rural Fire Protection District are gearing up for the time-honored tradition of gathering to give — the annual Fireman’s Christmas Program — on Thursday, Dec. 12, from 6 to 8 p.m., at CRC.
It is the time of year when fall soon gives way to winter, and as the essence of the holidays draws near, the fire department and school work together to keep the tradition that was first started in 1940.
“Many Portola residents remember this event from when they were children,” said Captain Elaine Frank of the fire district. “Now, their grandchildren celebrate this much-anticipated occasion.”
Two children from each grade have the chance to win a new bike and helmet, making a total of eight bicycles and helmets given away at this event. Santa Claus and Sparky the Fire Dog will also attend, so bring your camera! There will be candy for attending children as well.
In addition, Principal Melissa Leal revealed that CRC first-grade classes will be treating attendees to carols and seasonal songs during the event, creating new memories in this community tradition.
For those wishing to assist in donations toward the giveaway, contact Frank at 228-2656, or make tax-deductible donations through EPRFPD Firefighters Association, a 501c3 nonprofit, by Monday, Dec. 2.
