Hot August Nights … and days in Almanor

The Lake Almanor basin experienced unusually warm conditions during most of the month of August. While we did not set any high temperature records, our daily temperatures were consistently above the averages. Our morning lows ran an average of 5 degrees warmer and our afternoon highs were 4 degrees above the norm. Our peak August temperature was 96 degrees, a figure that was recorded on three different afternoons.

As expected, there was essentially no new moisture during the month. The Prattville monitoring site only added a scant 0.08 inch to our accumulation, bringing our July-June seasonal total to 0.90 inch at the end of the month. We don’t usually start seeing any significant rain until October.
