While Fire Chief James (Jim) Hamblin officially retires in February 2018, his 70 years of service to the Indian Valley Community Services District Fire Department was celebrated Sunday, Sept. 24.

A couple of hundred people turned out to wish Hamblin well in his retirement at the Greenville Community Park.

“The board and staff congratulate the chief for his dedication to service over the past seven decades,” said General Manager Chris Gallagher.

Hamblin began his career with the department Feb. 13, 1948. He and his family are long-time residents of Indian Valley. In the earlier years of the district, Hamblin was chief steward.

“He is a big supporter of the community and  events in the community. He truly cares for each and every person who lives in the valley,” said Gallagher.
