Jack George Thompson
Long time Portola resident Jack G. Thompson passed away recently after a long illness.
Jack attended Portola High School and after a stint in Germany with the Army went to work for the then Western Pacific Railroad.
After a medical retirement from the railroad he was able to indulge in his favorite hobbies of blacksmithing and gun smithing. He had an on line gunsmith business operated as Mav Forge. He spent many years as a docent in the blacksmith shop at the Plumas Eureka State Park and was named docent of the year in 1997.
Jack also served several terms on the Grizzley Lake Community Services District Board.
He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara and son Jesse Scott. He is survived by his grandson, Taylor Thompson; brother Steven Thompson; sisters Lois Thompson and Sherry Dorithy, niece Heather Barker and nephew Cory Thompson.
At his request there was no service and his ashes were scattered at sea.
