Junior high students perform at Chico State University

Last weekend Portola Junior/Senior High School (PJSHS) sent five hard working band students to the California Music Educator Association North Section Honor Band, which was held at Chico State on Friday, March 18 and Saturday, March 19.
The students sent were Katie Romero on mallets, Jayla Kettle playing clarinet, Maddison Vieira-Weatherby on trumpet, Violet Griffin playing trombone, and Nola Griffin on the trumpet.
“Honor Band is a great experience for our students,” said staff at Portola Junior/Senior High School. “These fabulous, dedicated students worked diligently on their music with local music teachers, Maria Popish and Jane Brown for many months.”
On the weekend of the event, the five students were able to travel down to Chico with other students from Plumas County to join forces with the best music students from all over the North State, where they rehearsed for many hours under expert guest conductors and then performed at the end of the second day for parents and friends.
“Our PJSHS students played very well and represented our school with musical excellence, great citizenship, and dedication,” said staff. “We are super proud of them!”
