Karen Ann Fraser (Scolari)
Karen Ann Fraser (Scolari)
Karen passed away on June 17, 2022, after a brief bout with Lymphoma. She grew up in Reno, NV, attending various Reno schools and graduating from Reno High in 1962. She graduated from Sacramento City College, and then Sacramento State University in 1978, with a degree in Early Childhood Development. She was a descendant of the Swiss-Italian cattle ranchers of the Gold Rush era Sierra Valley.
George Fraser and Karen Scolari were married in 1963 and were together until her passing. George and Karen lived in University of Nevada student housing for the first two years of their married life. They later moved to Sacramento, where they lived until moving to Graeagle, CA, 15 years ago. Karen was the mother of two daughters, Kristen Geissler (Rob) of Santa Rosa, and Lisa McConnell of Rocklin, CA. She had six grandchildren including Christian (Kristy), Rob, David, Cooper, Matt and Molly; she also leaves two brothers in Reno, Steve Scolari (Ann), and Michael Scolari (Lana), and numerous nephews and one niece.
Karen lived an adventurous life, which included annual ski trips to Sun Valley, travel to Europe, Africa, Mexico, South America, and numerous bare boat sailing charters. Whatever exciting thing George wanted to do, Karen was ready to go. She was past President of Sunset Whitney Country Club Women’s Club, and past Captain of the Graeagle Meadows Women’s Golf Club. She was a regular volunteer at the EPCAN (Eastern Plumas) food bank, and at the White Sulfur Springs Ranch. She was always available for people in need, especially children.
Karen will be remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many.
A celebration of Karen’s life will be held Sunday, July 17, at 3pm at the Graeagle Meadows Golf Course Restaurant.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Karen’s name to the High Sierra Animal Rescue (Portola).
