Kathryn Vivian (Parsons) “Kathy” Schlueter
Kathryn Vivian (Parsons) “Kathy” Schlueter, age 79, of Chester, died on Monday, December 19, 2022, in Chester.
Kathy was born on April 5, 1943, to Ellis and Evelyn Parsons in Berlin, Wisconsin, and graduated from Berlin High School in 1961.
Kathy married Fred Schlueter August 25, 1963 in Ripon, Wisconsin. The following year their son Dan was born, followed 3 years later by their daughter Heidi.
In 1969, Fred and Kathy moved the family “out west” to California and settled at Lake Almanor. In 1972, they purchased a business in Chester that consisted of a laundromat, car wash, barber shop, beauty shop and an insurance agency which they owned and ran. They also lived there until 1990. They sold the business in 2000 and fully retired at that time.
Kathy was an amazing singer and musician. In the early 70s, along with her husband Fred, Kathy sang and played keyboards for a popular local band called the Runaways. They played “gigs” almost every weekend, both locally and throughout the north state, until well into the 1980s. She played the organ at church for much of her adult life and played her baby grand piano every day until the very end.
After they retired, Fred and Kathy were able to do a decent amount of traveling and especially enjoyed staying on military bases and meeting interesting people from all walks of life. Kathy loved her family and especially her four grandchildren. Fortunately they all grew up in Chester and were able to spend many years of quality time with her.
Kathy is survived by her husband Fred of Chester, brother Frederick Parsons of San Francisco, son Dan (Christine), daughter Heidi Steen (Rob), grandchildren Justin Schlueter (Courtney), Robbie Steen, and Jenna Schlueter, all of Chester, and grandson Jason Schlueter of San Diego.
Kathy is preceeded in death by her parents, Ellis and Evelyn Parsons, her sister Judith (Parsons) Wilkinson and her brother Peter Parsons.
A memorial service will be held at the Chester Baptist Church, 210 Myrtle Street, in Chester at 2pm on Saturday, January 7, 2023.
