Last blood drives of the year are planned – one in Greenville, the other in Quincy

With the critical shortage for blood this time of the year, now is the time to plan a gift for someone who truly needs it—the gift of a pint of blood.

Two local community drives are within a week of each other, and both would love to have new and long-time donors contribute.  Signing up is easy and donating takes no longer than an hour at the most.

On Dec. 1, the Wednesday after Thanksgiving, the Greenville Community Blood Drive will be held in the cafeteria/multipurpose room between the buildings of the Greenville High School (117 Grand Street) and the elementary school building.

Getting there can be a challenge with the various flag stops, but this small blood drive hopes to show that Greenville is still on the map and in the world of blood donations!  The drive is from noon – 5:30 p.m. and coordinated by Sheri Schwartz, who can be reached at (530-280-0495) to help with appointments or answer questions.

On the following Tuesday, Dec. 7 (noon – 6 p.m.) and Wednesday, Dec. 8 (9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.) the Quincy Community Blood Drive will be held at the Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Church at 55 Bellany Lane.  Coordinator Susan Christensen at (530-283-2424) can assist or answer questions concerning the two-day blood drive.

Vitalant, the blood center collecting the blood, is offering several special incentives.  All presenting donors through Dec. 5 will receive a $5 Amazon.com Gift Card or 200 bonus points. Donors of BOTH drives will automatically be entered to win 1 of 4 of the weekly Amazon.com Gift Cards valued between $500-$1,000 ($1500) grand prizes, all redeemable via email.**

No matter your vaccination status, you are absolutely allowed to give blood or platelets.  But in keeping with current CDC guidance, masks are required for donors, staff, and guests at Vitalant blood drives. Organizers thank you for your understanding as they navigate through this pandemic and continue to support a safe environment.

There is no such thing as a small act of kindness and donating to provide for this vital need is indeed a grand act of kindness and generosity.
