Life Tributes for the week of 6/12/19

Evelyn “Evie” Guess

Evie Guess was born May 31, 1933, in Cedarville, Arkansas, to John and Etter Plemons. Evie passed peacefully on May 29, 2019, at her Lake Almanor home with her loving husband of 70 years, Bill Guess at her side.

Evie is survived by her three sons: Donald Guess (Kris), of Crescent Mills; Rodney Guess (Joyce), of Hamilton Branch; and Kevin Guess (Cindy), of Watsonville and Lake Almanor.

Evie is also survived by numerous adopted, natural born, and step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Both Bill and Evie came from large families, Bill with 12 siblings and Evie with 11 siblings. Sue Santina, of Reno, Nevada, is Evie’s sole surviving sister.

Bill and Evie have lived at Lake Almanor full time for the last 31 years. The Guess sign on Peninsula Drive is a landmark for many. While raising her sons Evie would come up to the cabin and spend the entire summer at the lake. Bill would come up on the weekends.

Evie enjoyed having her family and friends surrounding her. Often other families would come and spend the summer at the cabin with the Guess family. Many a reunion of family and friends have been hosted at the Guess Cabin.

Evie and Bill traveled extensively in their 5th-wheel trailer throughout the United States visiting a total of 49 States, Canada and Mexico. Evie enjoyed playing cards, good books, bowling, water skiing, baking, crossword puzzles and a glass of wine – generally spending time with her family and many friends.

Grave side service to be held on Friday, June 14, at the Chester Cemetery at 1 p.m. Following the service at 2:30 p.m. please come by the Guess Cabin
