Margaret Rose Chavez
Margaret Rose Chavez
July 18, 1943-February 22, 2023
Margaret passed away peacefully with her husband Carl and son Christopher at her side after fighting off Multiple Sclerosis for over 50 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Claire and Dorothy Elmore, her brothers Larry and Bill Elmore and her daughter Abigail Rose Cushenberry. Margaret was a resident of Johnsville and Graeagle for over 20 years before moving with Carl in 2020 to rural Meversdale, Pennsylvania to be near their son Christopher. Besides Carl and Christopher, she is survived by her two grandchildren, Hailey and Cody Cushenberry and great-grandson Dominic Toscano.
As Carl’s partner for almost 57 years, she traveled the State to numerous California State Parks from the ghost town of Bodie to the North Coast Redwoods before retiring near Plumas Eureka State Park and Graeagle. A graduate of Humboldt State College in 1966, they met there as the loving couple they were. In retirement, Margaret was an avid reader and quilter who, despite her disability, enjoyed world traveling with Carl on numerous adventures in Europe, New Zealand and Canada.
At home in Graeagle, Margaret enjoyed her Book Club gatherings, Reno Broadway musicals and Portola Methodist Church activities. She supported Carl in his State Park work and the Feather River Land Trust work in retirement.
Donations in Margaret’s memory can be made to the Feather River Land Trust in Quincy, California.
