‘Meet me at the graveyard’

Beware the Greenville Cemetery on Saturday, Sept. 28.  They’re digging up Hamblin family history.

The Greenville Cy Hall Memorial Museum is holding “Meet Me At the Graveyard,” an annual fund-raising event that starts at 5 p.m. at the cemetery on Hideaway Road. The spooky party will move to the Masonic Hall on Main Street for hors d’oeuvres at 5:45 p.m.

Along with shovel-loads of lore about William L. Hamblin, the grandfather of the very much alive Jim Hamblin, the evening will include an annual soup contest. Prizes include recognition on a perpetual trophy and a complimentary membership to the museum for next year. All soup entries must be at the Masonic Hall by 5 p.m., Sept. 28.

The evening will not stop with digging up memories of William L. Hamblin. Come and meet William J. Hamblin and William K. Hamblin, our Jim Hamblin’s father and half-brother respectively.

Tickets for the Graveyard event and applications for the soup contest are available at the museum, on the corner of Main and Mill streets in Greenville, from Friday to Sunday, noon to 4 p.m., or from board members.  For more information contact Travis Rubke, 284-6473.
