Melissa Firebaugh was born on July 30th, 1975, in Quincy. She passed away at the age of 46 on August 17th, 2021, in Lincoln, Nebraska. She is survived by her parents, Pam and Richard Firebaugh of Lincoln, Nebraska, her brother Jesse Firebaugh, her sister Aleda (Jim) White of Quincy, her nieces Stella, Pamela, and Lillian, her great-niece Darcy, and her aunts Laura and Eileen, and her uncle Randy. She is preceded in death by her aunt Lisa and her cat Mina.
Melissa grew up in Portola where she attended school through 10th grade, before moving to Nebraska. She will always be remembered for her bright, kind spirit. She was compassionate with an incredible sense of humor and once said her favorite color was yellow, because she believed it was unpopular and felt sorry for it. She loved music and may be remembered by PHS students for her 9th grade lip-synced performance of Aretha Franklin’s “Respect” at a pep assembly. She was also an avid reader, one of her favorite books being Anne of Green Gables. She enjoyed art and made sculptures and paintings as gifts for friends and family. Her cats gave her great comfort in life, and she loved and cherished each one. We will always hold her memory in our hearts and miss her in our lives.
