Murphy Fire Day 4

The Murphy Fire, which broke out in the early morning hours of Tuesday, Aug. 7, northwest of Belden, is at 117 acres, and 30 percent contained as of this morning.  Firefighters will continue the work that they have been doing for the past couple of days — building containment and contingency lines. The air attack will continue with helicopters dropping water on hot spots.

Highway 70 remains open with controlled traffic. The voluntary evacuations have been lifted and businesses in the area remain open. The Pacific Crest Trail is closed from Belden to Highway 36 in Chester.

The cause of the fire is undetermined at this point.
