‘Music in Our Schools’ month

March is “Music in Our Schools” month and Chester Elementary School has been participating in music classes all year with Marsha Roby teaching the kindergarten through fourth grade and Cory Rickert teaching the fifth and sixth grades. Studies have shown that school music reduces stress, develops confidence, makes the brain work harder, increases hand/eye coordination and can help with math skills. Pictured are Mrs. Crowder’s fourth-graders with their recorders. They are currently doing “Recorder Karate” where they receive a colored belt for each song they learn. They have earned five belts to date and are shooting for all eight by the end of the school year. Mrs. Roby is seated in the front row center. Photo submitted
