Enjoy a BBQ lunch at the Olsen Barn on June 16 beginning around 2 p.m., featuring fresh local food, including handmade sausages from Young’s Market in Taylorsville, a variety of salads and beverages.

The community is invited to join the Feather River Land Trust for an adventurous outing on the lesser-explored portion of the Olsen Barn Meadow on Saturday, June 16, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The fundraising event will start with a morning flat-water kayak float and canoe paddle on the north side of the causeway.

After the paddle there will be a BBQ lunch at the Olsen Barn, which FRLT conserved in 2015 with wide community support.

Participants will meet FRLT staff members at the Highway 36 public access parking area on the Olsen Barn Meadow property at 9 a.m. From there the group will carpool to a launch point along Last Chance Road.

Led by naturalist Nils Lunder, the group will be paddling and bird watching for approximately two hours.

The BBQ at Olsen Barn will feature fresh local food, including handmade sausages from Young’s Market in Taylorsville, a variety of salads and beverages.

Only 20 spots are available for the float trip, and 40 spots for the BBQ. Registration is required for the float and BBQ lunch at frlt.org/NorthOlsenPaddle by Wednesday, June 13.

There are three options: float in FRLT boat and lunch, $50; float in personal boat and lunch, $30; or lunch only, $15.

The FRLT has a limited number of kayaks for rent for those who don’t have their own, with fees listed on the website when registering.

Money raised goes toward the costs of putting on the kayak and BBQ event.
