Jon David McKay

Jon David McKay passed away Jan. 27, 2017, peacefully at his home in Portola.

He leaves behind his son Patrick McKay and his cousin Sharon Castaneda (Richard), John Nunes, his lifelong friend and his wonderful dog Jake.

In Jon’s early years, he played football for Castlemont High in Oakland. He was also a die-hard Raider fan and he loved to shoot pool.

Jon served in the Army and he was a member of the American Legion for many years.

After serving in the military, Jon went to work as a firefighter for the city of Alameda and he retired after 30 years of service.

Jon always enjoyed fishing at Lake Davis and enjoyed Plumas County overall. He retired here in Portola where he spent the last 15 years. He was a regular at the local Bank Club and had many friends. Jon will be truly missed.

Robert W. Oyler

Robert W. Oyler (Bob) passed away, peacefully, with his family at his side on Feb. 17, 2017. He was 90 years old.

Robert was born on Jan. 5, 1927, in Los Angeles to William Adair Oyler and Alice Wagner Myers. Robert served his country in WWII and Korea in the Navy.

Robert is survived by his brother Don (his wife Inez) Oyler, of Shady Cove, Oregon; his wife Beverly, of Stockton; his children, Kathy (her husband Dan) Reece, of Sacramento, Kris (her husband Keith) of Granite Bay, Audrey (her husband Tony), of West Sacramento, Joe and daughter Haylee, of Bakersfield, Jeff; also, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren and his devoted caretaker, Tony McCann.

His parents William Adair and Alice Wagner Oyler preceded him in death and wait for him at Heaven’s Gate.

Robert worked for Pacific Telephone and AT&T for 35 years, as an equipment engineer. He was proud of the fact that he had been retired for that same amount of time.

Robert and Beverly moved to Portola in 1987 and recently moved to Stockton to be near family. Robert was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Portola and leaves many friends in the Portola area.
