Brian Ward Fulcher

Portola resident Brian Ward Fulcher died July 18, 2017 at Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno, Nevada, at the age of 61. He was born on Oct. 31, 1956, in Portola.

He was survived by his son, Travis W. Fulcher; daughter, Jennifer A. Rodriguez; granddaughters, Tiana Fulcher and Linnise Rodriguez; and brother Warren Jennings.

Services will take place at 1 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 17 at the park on Joy Street in Portola.

Robert Louis Pfeil

Robert Louis Pfeil, 91, of Carson City, Nevada, passed away on Aug. 5, 2017. Military Honors will be held at 9:30 a.m., Friday, Sept. 15, at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

Robert was born in St. Louis, Missouri, to Louis and Mary Matilda Pfeil on Feb. 18, 1926. He went to school in Texas, graduated high school and joined the Navy in 1944. He served in Japan as a machinist, then joined the Army and served stateside during the Korean War.

He was a career machinist and inventor. He worked on the original seat belt, fireproof shingles, the hydraulic lift that empties trash receptacles into the garbage truck and making light racecar parts.

He taught judo to kids in Bishop and was active in the Search and Rescue Team. He served on the Portola City Council, was very active in church and loved the Lord and people very much.

Robert is survived by his wife, Donna, of 38 years; six children, Jack, Mark, Heidi, Robert, Eric and Nicole; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and his son, Alan.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Alzheimer’s Association, 1301 Cordone Ave., Ste. 180, Reno, NV 89502.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Evergreen Mountain View Health and Rehabilitation Center of Carson.

Services are entrusted to Nevada Funeral Services of Carson City.

Alice “Janine” McGuire Todd

Alice “Janine” McGuire Todd, known to her family as “Noni,” passed peacefully Aug. 31, 2017, with several family members by her side.

She was born June 11, 1931, in Douglas, Arizona, the daughter of James D. and Alice McGuire. She attended high school in Tucson, Arizona, and college at University of Arizona. Janine married Gerald W “Jerry” Todd in 1952. Jerry and Janine had three daughters, Janine, Janice and Colleen. Janine was an active member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and Holy Family Church of Portola.

Janine was preceded in death by her husband Jerry, who died in 2014, they were married 62 years.

She is survived by her three daughters, Janine Ciapponi (Bob), of Soquel, Janice Allegri (Phil), of Scotts Valley and Colleen Kennedy (Jim), of Gardnerville, Nevada; grandchildren, Mike Allegri (Kari), Nick Allegri (Shawna), Katrina Ciapponi, Keith Ciapponi, Katherine Ciapponi, Bud Kennedy (Lyndsey) and Laurie Kennedy Midkiff (Doug). Janine had eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Jim McGuire II.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, Oct. 14, at Holy Family Church in Portola. Time will be announced in this paper at a later date.
