PDH cuts ribbon on new child care center
Plumas District Hospital celebrated the opening of its new Child Care Center building with a ribbon-cutting event on Thursday, Aug. 12. The new building is directly adjacent to Plumas District Hospital.
The program has a maximum capacity of 28, and is licensed for children ages 0-5 years. Currently, all spots are filled.
The project commenced in the Fall of 2019, with the intention of prioritizing child care support for hospital staff. Plumas District Hospital was supported throughout the project by partners Butterfly Valley Design & Build, which handled the construction side of the project, and MountainCraft Landscaping.
Brett Marty, of Butterfly Valley Design & Build, had this to say about the project: “Although the PDH childcare center had its hurdles, including six separate permits and oversight by four different local and state entities, I thoroughly enjoyed the project and considered it a great success.”
Demolition started in late 2019, but red tape paused the project off and on until March of 2021. Once started crews were able to complete the project in under 4 1/2 months, 4 weeks ahead of schedule, despite Covid related supply chain delays.
“The staff at PDH were an absolute pleasure to work with, and I absolutely couldn’t have done it without my excellent crew, and team of local subcontractors all of whom came together in order to fast-track the timeline,” Marty said. “One of the larger challenges was to deal with the ‘dreaded travertine’ which was integral to the structure and too costly to completely remove. We are quite pleased with the color pallet and material choices that we landed on that help the old building shine and give new life for the kids, staff, and parents to enjoy.”
