Plumas County Fire Safe Council Certificate of Recognition Program

The Plumas County Fire Safe Council (PCFSC) is pleased to announce the newest recipients in the Fire Safe Recognition Program. This award identifies, and publicly acknowledges, outstanding fire safety accomplishments in Plumas County.

A personalized certificate was presented at the July 8th meeting to the following community members who have demonstrated initiative and leadership through their actions and accomplishments.

Recipient: Mike McCourt

Mike McCourt is one of the most dedicated firefighting individuals Gary Parque has known in his career.

He and his wife Sue moved to Plumas County in 1989 — 32 years ago. Mike retired from the position of Fuels and Prescribed Fire Battalion Chief on the Beckwourth Ranger District. He was 30 years with the Forest Service on various Forests. He has been with the Fire Safe Council since 2014 and is actively involved with the PCFSC Senior Disabled Defensible Space Clearance Assistance program.

He is seen as being very professional and caring, not only for his Senior clients but in everything he does.
If not for Mike, Gary feels he would not have been able to achieve what he has in Plumas County with his chipping pilot program.  Mike has been a big support to anyone who asks for help and is seen as an outstanding human being.

It has been Gary’s pleasure to have worked with him for many years, and to have spent personal time such as skiing at Alpine Meadows and so much more!

We are privileged to have such a great person doing such important work for his community here in Plumas County

Recipients: Barbara MacArthur and Bob MacArthur

Barbara MacArthur has been the (LACC) Lake Almanor Country Club Firewise chair for the past eight years, and together with her husband, Bob MacArthur, they have been an instrumental part of Lake Almanor Country Club’s, LACC fire mitigation programs. For example, the MacArthurs have both spent countless hours working on Firewise issues and duties such as: tabulating all the hours and expenses members performed doing Firewise cleanup, writing subsequent reports to Firewise USA, making LACC a Firewise community, holding evacuation drills, attending all the fire prevention partner meetings for Plumas County, keeping our Lake Almanor Basin community updated on new laws and events that help us remain safe—as well as aiding members in keeping reasonable insurance rates and helping members from being dropped by their home insurance carriers.

Due to the numerous volunteer duties, responsibilities, the Lake Almanor Country Club’s Board of Directors believe Barbara and Bob more than qualify for the certificate of appreciation by performing numerous acts which have helped reduce losses from wildfire due to helping meet the objectives of the Plumas County Communities’ Wildfire Protection Plan.

The nomination process and guidelines are available on the PCFSC website, www.plumasfiresafe.org, under the Recognition tab.  A Certificate of Recognition will be awarded to any person, business or community that acted in a manner which helped to reduce the losses from wildfires.

Anyone can nominate a candidate they feel is deserving. A subcommittee will then review the nominees and submit to the Board for a vote to honor the nominee(s) with a certificate. Initially the goal will be to have an announcement at the monthly meetings, which takes place the second Thursday of every month.
