Portola Riverwalk Disc Golf Club celebrates sign raising at course
The Portola Riverwalk Disc Golf Club held a meeting at their clubhouse located at 620 East Sierra Street at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 5.
Club President Terry Grim explained that the club just held their first board meeting recently and are now in the process of applying for 501c3 status.
After the meeting concluded, the club gathered at the first hole of the course itself to install brand new signage and play a few rounds.
“We had so much help from sponsors, volunteers and city staff, who were instrumental in getting our beautiful disc golf course done,” Grim said with a smile.
There is a community disc golf box at the first hole with spare discs in it for those who may want to try the game but don’t own any discs yet.
“We are promoting the participation of the community with healthy, outdoor activity by having brought the sport of disc golf to Portola, and we look forward to seeing more people playing the course as the weather warms!” Grim said with a smile.
The course held a soft grand opening in Fall 2021, and club members are already making plans for a grand opening tournament this summer, on July 9 and 10.
“We are also excited to note that we were recently added to the Sierra Tahoe disc golf series, which is a prestigious series of tournaments happening this July 9 and 10,” Grim added.
With so much in the works, all are invited to be a part of the planning and playing as the course comes out of its winter freeze.
“If you are interested in playing or joining one of the many leagues we hope to form, from women to over 55 leagues, please drop by and learn more about joining the club!” Grim said. Membership is $25 per person annually, and those who sign up in the near future will receive a special commemorative Portola Riverwalk Disc Golf disc.
