UPDATED Power shutoff: Which PUSD schools have to close
UPDATE 6:30 a.m.: The Quincy schools are closed today as well. Power is scheduled to be out in the affected areas until Wednesday evening.
Original story: Plumas Unified School District released a notice Monday regarding school closures for Tuesday, Sept. 8, as a result of the anticipated PG&E public safety power shutoff (PSPS) due a Red Flag Warning and the high potential for wild land fires. Many parts of the county are expected to lose power somewhere between 9 p.m. tonight and midnight. The anticipated shut down is currently estimated to last through Wednesday, Sept. 9, at 7 p.m. (depending on weather and equipment damage.)
Please plan for the following:
- Chester and Greenville – schools will be closed on Tuesday, Sept. 8.
- Portola – schools are open on Tuesday, Sept. 8. (Not on PG&E).
- Quincy – it is not yet known which portions of Quincy may or may not lose power so until we hear differently, Quincy schools are open tomorrow. We plan to contact families no later than 6 a.m., Tuesday.
Superintendent Terry Oestrich said that she spoke with PG&E officials regarding Quincy, but the utility was unable to provide specific information at that time.
PG&E is working today to set up a Community Resource Center at the Greenville High School parking lot and at Safeway in Quincy. For the most up to date information, please visit the following site: https://pgealerts.alerts.pge.com/updates/
