UPDATE: Power expected to return at 9 p.m.; PSREC experiencing a system-wide outage

UPDATE 6:50 p.m.: The expected time of restoration quoted by NV Energy is 9 p.m. tonight.

UPDATE 5 p.m.: Reporter Lauren Westmoreland contacted Plumas Sierra for additional information and learned that the outage is due to a pole fire. The fire needs to be put out and the pole replaced and then the line re-energized. Again, there is no estimated time of restoration. There also is no other backup available. NV Energy is Plumas Sierra’ backup source, which it has been using since PG&E transmission lines were burned in the Dixie Fire.

Plumas Sierra Rural Electric announced that it is currently experiencing a system-wide outage due to loss of its backup feed from NV Energy, because of a fire that is affecting NV Energy’s transmission lines. There is no estimated time of restoration. The announcement was made at 3:20 p.m. today, Oct. 8.
