Public comments sought for Phase IV of Crescent Mills Brownfield site redevelopment

Following several years of negotiating planning and liability challenges, cleanup efforts are well underway at the Sierra Institute for Community and Environment’s (Sierra Institute’s) Crescent Mills site.

Over the past three years, Sierra Institute has made significant progress in cleaning up the historic lumber mill and has been advancing efforts necessary to redevelop this Brownfield site into a wood products campus. Remediated portions of the site are already being utilized to support businesses targeting biomass utilization and expediting Dixie Fire recovery.

Sierra Institute is applying for an EPA Brownfield Cleanup Grant to fund additional cleanup and redevelopment work at the former Louisiana Pacific mill site in Crescent Mills, Ca. Prior to submitting the application, Sierra Institute is seeking public comment on the proposed action.

Draft documents are available for review and comment either online (https://sierrainstitute.us) or at the Sierra Institute’s office in Taylorsville, Ca at 4438 Main Street.

There will also be a public meeting, Tuesday Nov. 30 from 5- 6 p.m. at the Crescent Mills Fire Hall located at 36 Carter St., Crescent Mills CA 95934 to discuss the cleanup proposal as well as ongoing cleanup and redevelopment work at wood products campus in Crescent Mills.
