Quincy Farmers Market is going strong

Ideal weather and a nice-sized crowd occupied Dame Shirley Plaza on July 27 while Chico musician Pat Hull played music in the park. Vendors appeared to be quite busy chatting to patrons.

The July 27 market marked the mid-point with just as many markets remaining as those passed. Live entertainment continues with the Kepple Family on Aug. 3. The following weeks will bring Benny, Penny and Dude; Stone Soup; Diva and the Devils; Willis and Walker; and the market will close, as is tradition, with The Back 40.

The Quincy market runs every Thursday through Sept. 7, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m., at Dame Shirley Plaza in downtown Quincy.

Trays of half a dozen peaches seemed to be in every other person’s hands and children dashed around the grass with swords made of twisted balloons.

Emily Bryant called out names during the band breaks to award prizes from market vendors. Every purchase at the market earns a ticket for the drawing. Oos and ahs were heard from the crowd as folks were called up to receive a bag of cucumbers or locally made soaps or bakery items.

Children remain a highlight at the market as they run, jump and tumble together safely, surrounded by the “village” of adults, big sisters, brothers and neighbors watching their play.

Patrons Donovan and Michelle Beatty sat on the grass with their youngest child. Their two elder children returned from a shopping spree. With 3-year-old Garret watching closely, 6-year-old Amaiya held out a small rectangular tin covered with cellophane from Angela’s Bakery. “Ooo,” said her mother Michelle, “What is it?” Dramatically Amaiya said, “It’s a lemon zucchini bread, HOMEMADE,” thus displaying the high value of her purchase.
