Quincy tennis hits the courts

Quincy wins over Etna Lions 

The Trojans played host to the Lions March 26 in Quincy. The Etna team only had four players, 3 boys and 1 girl, but both teams made it work. “Teams played 8-game pro sets,” said QHS tennis coach Sarah Gallagher. The overall winning score was 10-3 for the Trojans.

Boys singles

Kalab Dupras, won playing Etna’s No. 1 player, 8-4. QHS Malachite Nelson won, 8-0. QHS Eli Allred won, 8-1. QHS Eli Vanasinchai won, 8-6. QHS Fisher Clark won, 8-7.

Girls singles

“This was our first match for the girls,” said coach Gallagher. All three QHS freshmen girls (Ava McColm, Lilly Pingree and Evelyn Gifford-Thielman) played the same Etna girl who was a senior with much experience. Even with the three Trojans playing her back-to-back, they were not able to tire her out. “They lost but played well for their first match against a very seasoned player,” said coach Gallagher.

Doubles

Trojan Kalab Dupras teamed with Chavis McAllister to win, 6-1, while Malachite Nelson teamed with Gabe Fletcher to lose a very close match to Etna’s No. 1 team, 5-6.

Colusa 11, Quincy 4

The Quincy Trojans traveled to play their opening match March 24 at Colusa High School. It was boys only for this inaugural round. “Great first match,” said Gallagher. It was the seventh match for the Colusa Redhawks so the hosts were plenty warmed up.

Singles

Quincy’s Kaleb Dupras, won against the Colusa No. 1 player, 7-6 and 6-3. Trojan Malachite Nelson had a close match losing to Etna No. 2. Quincy’s Eli Allred won 6-2 and 6-4. The overall singles tally was Colusa 9, QHS 2. “The four remaining QHS singles players are new to tennis and it was their first match,” said coach Gallagher. “All scored some games.”

Doubles

“We went 2-2 in doubles,” said coach Gallagher. “They were all close matchups.” QHS player Eli Allred teamed with Eli Vanasinchai won, 8-6. Connor Pangburn teamed with Gabe Fletcher won, 8-4.

Paradise and Live Oak teams trump Trojan tennis

“We lost a very good/competitive match against Live Oak,” said Gallagher. The Trojans hosted the Live Oak Lions March 28 in Quincy to lose, 3-6. Trojan Kaleb Dupras won the No. 1 seated Live Oak player and QHS Eli Allred won the Live Oak No. 2, and QHS Connor Pangburn won at number 4. The Troja’s traveled to Chico to play the Paradise Bobcats March 30 at the Chico Racquet Club. The Quincy doubles team of Lilly Pingree and Ava McColm won their match but overall, “We lost to Paradise Adventist,” said coach Gallagher. “They are a very strong team.”

Travel

The Trojan tennis team will travel to Etna, Live Oak, Dunsmuir, and Redding for the balance of their matches which will take them all the way to the league tournament. Then, Quincy tennis fans will have one last chance to see their Trojan team in action. Quincy High School will be the host for the final challenge of the season starting at 3 p.m., Wednesday, May 4, as the Paradise Bobcats come calling for the final match of the 2022 season.
