Quincy Thrift to close for now; but is offering free gift bags

Traci Turner, the owner of Quincy Thrift, said it’s been an agonizing decision, but she has decided to close her store for now as a result of the coronavirus threat.
“I’m just so torn,” she said. “On the one hand I want to be open for people, but I would hate it if someone got sick because they came into my store.” Ultimately she decided, “It’s not worth the risk.”
Turner knows the valuable role she plays in the community — providing clothing and other necessities for people in need — or those just looking for some unique items. The Plumas Crisis Center gives vouchers to their clients to be used in her store. But she said that it just doesn’t feel safe and has already had two close encounters, where fortunately test results came back negative.
In preparing for the holiday season, Turner had amassed quite a collection of Christmas items such as ornaments and mugs, and she will be filling gift bags with them, as well as a $5 voucher to her store. The bags will be hung on the fence in front of the store beginning Wednesday, Dec. 9. She will continue to fill and replace the bags each morning through Christmas Eve, and townspeople can pick up a bag (one per person) at her location at 515 Main St. in Quincy (across from the courthouse).
Turner wishes everyone a happy holiday season and is looking forward to reopening sometime after the New Year. In the meantime she is taking the time to assess her stock and rearrange the store so it will be ready for her customers when it reopens.
