Save the date

One and all are asked to save the date for the Portola Christmas Light Parade, to be held Friday, Dec. 6, at 6 p.m.

The annual Portola Christmas Light Parade has become an important tradition to help Portola ring in the holiday season and get people in the Christmas spirit.

The night of Dec. 6, the light parade will bring Santa to the middle of old downtown Portola to kick off an evening of fun, food and music.

Most importantly, it is one of the only events of the season for many Portola children to come out and meet Santa and share those magical moments that we all associate with Christmas.

The parade is free to enter and only requires that entrants show some Christmas spirit. Plan to put some lights on your car, truck, bike or boat, or get creative and enter a small float or marching entry.

“Decorating something can be a real family or neighborhood affair and if you haven’t entered a parade in the past, you’ll find it a really fun experience, especially for the kids,” said parade coordinator Rich McLaughli. “Being in, or just watching, the parade is fun for the entire family!”

For commercial businesses, this can be a great opportunity to get the company name out to public and show support for the community.

“Throw a couple strings of lights on your vehicle and come out and join the fun,” McLaughlin said with a smile.

Staging of the parade entries will begin at 4:30 p.m. and organizers ask that everyone be lined up and ready to go by 5:45 p.m. at the latest. The parade starts promptly at 6 p.m. and only takes about 30 minutes to complete.
