School superintendent extends early release to all communities due to heat
By Debra Moore
This evening, Plumas Unified School District Superintendent Bill Roderick announced that all schools in the district without air conditioning would be on early release for the rest of the week.
Earlier today the district earmarked the schools in Greenville and Quincy for early release based on forecasted temperatures, and then added Portola High School later in the morning, as the temperature predictions for the eastern end of the county increased. Chester was not included because Superintendent Bill Roderick said that the forecasted temperatures weren’t going to be as high as the other areas. But after further review, the early release will apply across the four communities.
The early releases impact only those schools without air conditioning, which means that C. Roy Carmichael Elementary in Portola and Quincy Junior Senior High School will maintain the regular release schedule.
The early releases will last throughout the week and are as follows:
Greenville Elementary – 12:30 p.m.
Greenville High School – 12:30 p.m.
Quincy Elementary Alder campus – 12:30 p.m.
Quincy Elementary Pioneer campus – 12:40 p.m.
Portola High School – 12:50 p.m.
Chester Elementary School – 12:30 p.m.
Chester High School – 1 p.m.
Roderick said that some of the times selected were to accommodate shared buses.
