Sheriff’s Blotter May 15-21: Mental health calls, dog problems, road crashes and stranded vehicles
Information in the Sheriff’s Blotter is gathered from the dispatch logs provided by the Plumas County Sheriff’s Office. No individual’s names are reported. And those arrested should be presumed innocent until proven guilty.
The following is a summary of activity for May 15-21
May 15
Trying to fill the void
4:21 a.m. Cromberg. A caller requests a welfare check on a subject who is having mental anguish and told the caller he had been drinking vodka and took medications. The caller reports the subject is alone with no weapons or statements of self-harm. The caller was advised that unless the subject requests medical care they will not respond. 4:26 a.m. Attempted to reach the subject by phone, no answer. 4:57 a.m. The Crisis Line called back and advised the subject is consuming vodka and taking hydrochloride and lorazepam. The subject has still made no self-harm statements and is not requesting medical. The caller was advised we still will not respond. Advised the caller to call back with any updates or changes to the situation. The caller stated they still have the subject on the phone. 1:48 p.m. There is no law enforcement or medical need. There have been multiple calls over the last few days. 7:08 p.m. The subject called 911 and said he is having mental health issues and requested to speak to a deputy. Spoke with the caller for about 20 minutes and he calmed down. 8:06 p.m. The subject phoned back and is having another emotional crisis. Spoke with the subject who is okay, just needed someone to talk to. 9:05 p.m. The caller requested to speak to someone who is a Vet. 10:25 p.m. The caller requested a lift assist but then stated he did not want Fire or medical. He requested someone talk to give him encouragement to get up. The caller stated he will call 988 (mental health hotline).
Big job
7 a.m. Keddie. A caller reports the USFS will be burning about 50 acres today.
Simple
11:49 a.m. Quincy. A caller reports a citizen turned in a found wallet. 12:33 p.m. The owner of the wallet was contacted, and he will come to Quincy this weekend to pick it up.
“Okay” on a scale of 1-10
1:50 p.m. Quincy. A caller reports her son is the victim of a hit and run. A vehicle clipped him while riding his bike. The driver did stop and ask if he was okay, then left. The subject is in the Emergency Room at PDH. The son is injured and is at the ER.
School is almost out
3:08 p.m. Quincy. A caller reports ongoing problems with reckless drivers, college kids, that live at the end of the street. The vehicles are a white Ford diesel truck and a white Dodge truck. The call was transferred to CHP.
What’cha doing? Can I play?
3:17 p.m. Portola. A caller reports a small bear has taken up residency in her back yard. It has been there for three days. There is no damage done. The bear is there now and isn’t afraid. Her kids were/are playing in the yard when it came over the fence. The information was sent to Fish & Wildlire.
Principles before personalities
5:45 p.m. Delleker. A caller reports a known person is at the Beckwourth Fire meeting but there is a restraining order that states she is to be 50 yards away from a known person. She has not approached or spoken with the caller yet. 6:35 p.m. Will try to contact the suspect when the meeting is over. The information is on file. 10:22 p.m. A deputy reports it is closed and will be contacting the parties tomorrow.
Dog gone it
7:35 p.m. Beckwourth. A caller reports a neighbor’s dog is at their gate, barking and charging, and they can’t get out of their yard. The dog possibly belongs to a known person. 7:47 p.m. The dog owner called and her mother will collect the dog. 8:21 p.m. The dog was returned to his residence by the owner’s family.
8 o’clock rock
8:30 p.m. Portola. A male subject was arrested on charges of drunk driving and driving with a blood alcohol level over .08 percent on Hwy 70 at Silver Springs.
Dig this
8:53 p.m. Meadow Valley. A caller reports two loose dogs, a tan Pitbull and a large dark-colored breed dog. The dogs were “aggressive” and barking at him and he ran them off with a shovel. Animal Control notified.
Too much
10:22 p.m. Quincy. CHP requested a second unit. 10:52 p.m. Deputies arrested a male subject on a charge of drunk in public on East Main St. at Claremont.
May 16
Wild drive toward Mad Road
12:12 a.m. Beckwourth. A caller said he heard yelling and screaming at a space close by. The subject’s first name was known. The caller reports she heard a vehicle. 12:17 a.m. A known female reports two known males showed up and broke her boyfriend’s vehicle window and left. One of the males hit her boyfriend in the face with a prybar. The caller declined medical care for the victim who was named. The suspects left in a green Nissan toward Mad Road. 1:58 a.m. A deputy filed a criminal report for charges of assault with a deadly weapon, conspiracy, and vandalism.
Soggy bottom
8:09 a.m. Quincy. A caller reports water spitting out and going onto the roadway at Hwy 70 and Chandler Road East. The caller was transferred to CHP. 9:46 a.m. A known person called to advise it was a water main on the ranch. The water has been shut off.
On second thought, I don’t think I feel like camping
8:54 a.m. Quincy. A caller reports an abandoned Travel Trailer parked in the middle of the road on Snake Lake Road at the bridge. It is white in color and there is no one around. The caller was transferred to CHP.
The case of mistaken identity
11:45 a.m. Clio. A caller reports the possible theft of a water pump. The caller said they have been dealing with two different companies. 12:40 p.m. A detective contacted a plumbing company that advised there was no theft. He stated there are three wells on the property and when the pump from one company went out to the property, they looked into the wrong well. Attempted to contact the other company and left a message for a call back. 4:14 p.m. The other company is going to contact the plumbing company and they will contact the caller regarding anything further on the case.
Bad equipment
11:58 a.m. Chester. A caller is in possession of a stolen tractor. She bought it from a subject. A friend of a friend brought it to her. She knows it is stolen. She has information on who owns the tractor. It was not stolen locally. The item is a blue LB3100 LS Backhoe, and the VIN was provided. 3:04 p.m. An officer advised he is working to confirm the tractor was stolen. He is working with the owner and the Butte County Sheriff, where the theft occurred. 3:08 p.m. The owner will call us once the theft report is made. 4:22 p.m. Butte County Sheriff Office called, the owner made the report and will assign an officer.
Talk to the hand
3:20 p.m. Blairsden. A caller reports a racoon is on her back porch. The information was given to Environmental Health.
BEEF! It’s what’s for dinner
5:54 p.m. Quincy. A caller reports yelling from apartments. It is unknown the apartment number, but you can hear it from the parking lot. The caller can hear a female, a male and a child, all yelling. 6:04 p.m. The caller called again via 911 and said the parties are now in the parking lot yelling at each other. The male and female are arguing about making dinner. 6:10 p.m. A Sgt. contacted two known subjects who advised it was a verbal argument only and agreed to keep the peace.
May 17
Rough morning
7:17 a.m. Quincy. A caller advises he broke down in the middle of the road on Hwy 70 west of Chandler Road East and feels unsafe. The caller was transferred to CHP.
Gonna be late
7:28 a.m. Greenville. A caller reports his back passenger tire is slashed. He is in the parking lot of Green Meadows Apartments. 5:55 p.m. Units are on the lookout for a known female subject. 6:09 p.m. A deputy advised unable to locate the female subject. A criminal report was filed.
In heat
11:31 p.m. Quincy. A caller reports two dogs locked in a vehicle in front of Safeway in a bright blue Hyundai Kona; the license plate was provided. While on the line the owner returned and is leaving.
Road hazards
11:49 a.m. Portola. A caller reports a known female’s Pitbull attacked her mom and her dog. The caller is declining medical currently but did get injuries. The information was faxed to Animal Control.
Territory wilderness of Madora Lake
6:33 p.m. Graeagle. A caller reports that her dog was attacked by a mountain lion while on a walk near the water tank at the end of Madora Lake Road. The caller is on the way to the emergency vet in Reno. The caller already sent Fish & Wildlife a text message.
May 18
Sounds of summer
3:42 a.m. Greenville. A caller reports that two dogs have chased a large animal up a tree and have been barking at it for about an hour. The caller was faxed to Animal Control.
Is that what they call “New York style” pizza?
7:06 a.m. Portola. A caller requests a welfare check on a known male. He lit a pizza box on fire in her kitchen, so she told him to leave. He is sitting outside the apartment but has nowhere to go. The information was given to deputies. 7:41 a.m. The caller reports the suspect vandalized her car. He is now walking toward West St. and Green St. on a trail walk carrying a large black bag. 9:08 a.m. A deputy advised citing the male subject on a charge of vandalism.
Kicking up their heels
5:53 p.m. Chester. A caller requested a welfare check on parents who haven’t returned calls for 5-6 days. The caller sent a Mother’s Day gift and did not hear back which is unusual. Both are in their 80s. 6:12 p.m. The caller contacted his sister who said his parents are on a road trip and not home.
Fire near Keddie closes highway
7:35 p.m. Quincy. A caller reports fire in the Keddie Wye area on the mountain on the east side of Hwy 70. The call was transferred to USFS. 7:52 p.m. A second caller reported the same. 7:55 p.m. Several reports of a vegetation fire on Hwy 70 near Keddie Wye and Spanish Creek bridge. 8:03 p.m. CHP is on the scene and advised it is on the north side of the road at Vickie’s curve, 100 yards off the roadway. 8:09 p.m. It is a confirmed forest fire. Union Pacific Railroad reports a train passing through the area reports a fire approximately the size of 3-4 football fields. 8:13 p.m. CHP is shutting down Hwy 70 at Spanish Creek bridge and Hwy 70 at Keddie Resort. 9:12 p.m. A second caller requested to be transferred to CHP to provide better instructions for traffic control.
Hot spot
10:22 p.m. Twain. CHP received a 911 call of a fire near or in the PG&E yard. The call was transferred to USFS. A unit is on the way. 10:36 p.m. CHP advised deputies can stand down; the fire is a control burn in a pit.
May 19
As you wish …
12:22 a.m. Portola. A caller requests assistance with her son who has mental health issues and is drinking and causing a disturbance. The subject left the residence and is sitting across from Red and White on a bench, extremely intoxicated. The caller requested that we arrest him for his own safety. 1:32 a.m. The male subject was arrested on a charge of drunk in public.
Is it summertime already?
12:26 a.m. Greenville. A 911 open line, could hear a female yelling “get out of my house.” The line disconnected. 12:28 a.m. Recontacted and could hear an argument between a male and female. The female is yelling at the male to leave the residence. A male is advising the female to “Beat him up.” Both parties are refusing to talk to dispatch, the line was open. 12:33 a.m. The caller recontacted and said a friend was at her residence visiting and she asked him to leave, and he caused a disturbance and refused. The subject is intoxicated. The subject is outside the residence on the porch now refusing to leave the area and was named. 1:04 a.m. A deputy contacted the caller who advised it was a verbal argument only and the subject was gone upon arrival. The caller stated the subject is possibly on Wolf Creek Road. Deputies will be on the lookout for the subject in the area. 1:14 a.m. A deputy contacted the male half who said it was a verbal argument only. The male half is on his way home. No further assistance needed.
Slashed tires
8:35 a.m. Chester. A caller reports her ex, who was named, slashed her tires last night. 1:09 p.m. A deputy filed a criminal report.
Ongoing harassment
11:13 a.m. Quincy. A caller requested information be on file due to ongoing harassment from a named male subject. The suspect is following her around and showing up unannounced, revs his engine in her driveway, and leaves. The caller would like the information on file and has been in contact with Victim Witness.
Time for a review from Smokey: Drown, stir, and drown again
1:14 p.m. Graeagle. A caller reports an unattended campfire on the far side of the bridge over Sulphur Creek. Attempted to transfer to USFS but the line was busy. 1:23 p.m. The information was given to USFS. 2:18 p.m. The fire was extinguished.
In the system
3:06 p.m. Greenville. A female subject was arrested on a local warrant and charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and under the influence of methamphetamine.
Concerns of fast and cold water
4:27 p.m. Quincy. A caller reports a male went into the water off Beskeen by the Water District, went in after a dog, and neither can be seen. Search and Rescue were paged. Quincy Fire and PDH were paged. The information was sent to a Sgt. and a detective. 4:31 p.m. The male and dog are out. All units were canceled.
Differences in-house
5:07 p.m. Blairsden. A caller reports seeing an unknown male taking security cameras down at his vacation house. The caller watched the male on the cameras rip them down and now they are not connected. The caller said his mother is staying at the residence but should be the only person there. 6:25 p.m. A deputy contacted the mother at the residence who allowed the cameras to be taken down. The deputy gave the information to the caller who was upset that his mother allowed the cameras to be taken down and that the Sheriff’s Office couldn’t do anything about it. The caller said the cameras were put up at the residence due to prior issues with assault and drug use.
SUMMERTIME
7:10 p.m. Portola. A caller reports they can hear a child screaming in the area. It is unknown where it is exactly coming from or what the child is yelling but it sounds like they need help. 7:23 p.m. A deputy contacted multiple juveniles near W. Magnolia and W. Loyalton who were playing loudly and were okay.
May 20
Past bedtime
1:58 a.m. Quincy. A caller reports a loud party with music all night and now the subjects are yelling and possibly fighting outside the residence on Jackson and Lindan streets. It is unknown how many college students but stated over 5 people. 2:09 a.m. A deputy contacted the 6 college students inside the residence. There was no physical argument, and the students were asked to quiet down for the night. The parties agreed to keep the peace.
Sure, you can borrow it
8:09 a.m. Greenville. A caller reports her nephew’s car she was borrowing was stolen. The call was transferred to CHP.
Lose a dog?
9:02 a.m. Portola. A caller reports she found a dog on A15 near Hwy 89. It is a wire-haired hound with a collar and phone numbers. 9:21 a.m. Attempted to contact via both number but no answer. The caller will hold on to the dog for now.
Civilians matter
11:32 a.m. Greenville. A caller reports a known male punched him in the head approximately 30 minutes ago. The suspect left to go to work at a known location. 1:12 p.m. Deputies advised locating the male subject who was charged on a citizen’s arrest for battery.
Yoo hoo!
1:18 p.m. Portola. A caller reports he found a wallet in a turnout on Rocky Point Road.
Two-wheelers
2:42 p.m. Cromberg. A caller reports he had a problem with a biker gang coming on to his property and he would like to speak to a deputy. 5:35 p.m. A Sgt. contacted the caller who requested the information be on file.
Arrested
3:06 p.m. Greenville. A female subject was arrested on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of methamphetamine, and a local warrant.
Snow camp
11:25 p.m. Bucks Lake. A caller reports that he received a text from his friend stating that he is stuck in the snow on Bucks Lake/Oroville Hwy. He did not have a better location than the “top of Bucks Lake and Oroville Hwy.” The caller said his friend was driving alone but must have come upon another stuck vehicle; stated that there are now five people in total. The subject is in a Honda sedan with no hood. 11:35 p.m. Attempted to contact the subject, no answer, sent texts through Rapid Deploy. 11:43 p.m. Confirmed with Butte County they have not received any reports of stuck vehicles in or around that area. May 21, 12:02 a.m. No response tonight, a unit will follow up in the morning. Requested a ping to get a better location. 12:22 a.m. Verizon advised the phone is powered off. 12:35 a.m. Verizon advised a possible location per two phone towers, the location is a rough estimate, the area of Palmetto and Four Trees on Bucks Lake Road. 6:35 a.m. Waiting on an email from Verizon with the phone historical location information. 9:14 a.m. A second caller reports text contact with the subject at 8:49 a.m. The subject said he was stuck near Four Trees Road staging area and was traveling alone. He is now with another family, that includes children, who are also stuck in the snow. 9:15 a.m. A unit will arrive to the subject within minutes in a snow cat, approximately 30 minutes. 1:15 p.m. Assistance is complete, all units can return to Quincy. 2:31 p.m. A unit reported all parties involved.
May 21
Crash landing, without a pad
6:35 a.m. Greenville. A caller reports that an unknown male just knocked on their door asking for a ride. The caller advised the subject appears to have been sleeping in their car overnight on North Valley Road. The subject was described and appears to be injured, has blood on him. There are unknown weapons. 6:55 a.m. The caller recontacted and said that her husband went outside to talk to the subject and the subject was advised that the husband is working on getting him a ride. The subject walked back across the street and picked up his motorcycle. The caller said the subject was able to get the bike started and then left the area, last seen heading southbound on North Valley Road toward Stampfli Lane. The motorcycle is green, the subject is wearing a sports jersey with the number 10 on it and is only wearing one shoe. 6:56 a.m. The caller recontacted via 911 to report they just discovered the windows are busted out on their vehicle; a 2016 Toyota 4-runner parked in the driveway. The subject’s shoe was found in a vehicle, a white van. It appears the subject slept in the vehicle overnight. 7:04 a.m. The location was given to CHP for a motorcycle crash. 11:43 a.m. The Sgt. created a criminal report.
Moving hazard
8:11 a.m. Beckwourth. A caller reports approximately 10-12 cows in the roadway, red and black. The caller said it is an unknown owner at Diamond S Ranch. The information was given to CHP.
Road block
8:49 a.m. Quincy. SAR reported a large rock in the roadway on Bucks Lake Road at Lakeshore Resort. CHP copied Radio Cross Traffic. CHP Sgt. requested County Road ETA on rock removal. 8:55 a.m. contacted County Roads, the rock will be removed Monday May 21. The information was given to CHP.
Was he missing a shoe?
9:25 a.m. Greenville. A caller reports their son was jumped by someone in town while riding a motorcycle, he just returned home and needs medical attention. The caller said he has a head injury and possibly a broken leg. Medical was requested. Indian Valley Fire, Crescent Mills Fire, and PDH were paged. REMSA requested dispatch requests Plumas County Sheriff Office response. 9:48 a.m. Plumas 11 requested a helicopter to stage at Gansner Field. 9:56 am. SEMSA Air accepted with 10:29 a.m. ETA to Gansner. 10:46 a.m. Plumas 11 reports SEMSA is off the ground. The patient was transported to Renown.
A night to remember?
11:20 a.m. Greenville. A caller reports ongoing threats and harassment from a juvenile. They were going to jump her last night at the GHS prom. Three juveniles were mentioned. The caller said they have been driving around her work. She is currently at home with her parent. 11:30 a.m. The information was given to Sgt. in dispatch. Civil procedures were provided.
The big adventure
3:52 p.m. Portola. A caller reports they are lost, and their vehicle is stuck out by Bloomer Spur. Their red Jeep Cherokee Gladiator is high centered in mud. There are 2 kids and 3 adults. They have food, water, and no injuries. 6:04 p.m. The caller was advised that SAR is on the way. 6:55 p.m. SAR arrived with the caller. 7:15 p.m. The subjects are being escorted down to Frenchman Lake Road. 9:52 p.m. Response complete.
In transit
5:43 p.m. Portola. A caller reports a male in his 50’s wearing a hat is yelling at people, holding a sign, and walking toward Subway. 6:13 p.m. A unit will handle when they clear from current call. 8:14 p.m. The situation was handled.
