Sign up for Dec. 1-2 blood drive in Quincy
Regional blood bank Vitalant has once again asked the Quincy Community blood drive to host a two-day event instead of the usual one to make up for drives they can’t hold at high schools and colleges due to the pandemic.
For the third year in a row, Patti DeCoe of Patti’s Thunder Café will be sponsoring the December drive. Decoe herself is a regular blood donor who gives back to her community by sponsoring our drives.
Donors can schedule an appointment for either Tuesday, Dec. 1, or Wednesday, Dec. 2. As always, the drive will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at the corner of Bucks Lake Road and Bellamy Lane across from the hospital.
COVID protocols will be in place, according to local drive coordinator, Susan Christensen. This means that donors must wear masks, social distancing will be maintained, and Vitalant’s staff will be sanitizing all surfaces throughout the drive. “This will be a safe venue for donors,” says Christensen, who added that it’s critical we have a good turnout because the region’s blood supply is lower than usual.
Tuesday’s drive runs from noon to 6 p.m., with most but not all remaining appointment slots being in the late afternoon. Wednesday’s drive starts at 8:30 a.m. and runs to 1:30 in the afternoon. There are many appointment times still available Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
“We prefer that donors make an appointment, especially during the pandemic, because we can better monitor and maintain social distancing,” Christensen adds, “but we make every effort to accommodate our donors’ schedules, and we will still take walk-in’s. Just call us, and we’ll find a way to make it work for you!”
To make an appointment, call Christensen at 283-2424, or go online to www.bloodhero.com using the sponsor code QUINCY.
