Snow is on the way; CHP issues reminder
With a fast moving winter storm approaching, the CHP is reminding Plumas County residents to remember to activate their four-wheel drive system if they have one. Officers in the Portola Resident Post share that over the past few days they have been on scene with multiple ice/snow related collisions, and were told repeatedly that they drivers had 4WD, but had not activated the system.
That information is useful heading into this evening and overnight when the National Weather Service is issuing a winter storm advisory for Plumas County.
A cold weather system will bring moderate to heavy snow to the area later this evening into Tuesday leading to significant travel impacts across the passes. Lowering snow levels on Tuesday may bring a dusting of snow down into the lower foothill elevations. Total snow accumulations of 1 to 4 inches are expected, with localized amounts up to 8 inches. Be prepared for reduced visibility and chain requirements.
