Terrell Swofford “Bubba” – November 23, 1946 – January 21, 2023
Terry Swofford passed away suddenly Saturday, January 21, 2023, at his home in Portola. He was 76 years old.
Terry was born on November 23, 1946, to Harry and Betty Swofford in Redding California.
Terry moved to Portola in 1975 from Fremont, California. He worked as an auto shop teacher for Plumas Unified School District for 30 years. He owned and operated Swofford’s Auto Machine and served as Plumas County District One Supervisor for eight years. Terry enjoyed being a part of the community and volunteered his time to serving others. His hobbies included stock car racing with his students and son. He was well known for telling people and friends to “Hubba Bubba” when trying to keep them on task, hence he is known by many as “Bubba.”
Terry is survived by his wife Sandy; their children Mike Swofford (Cindy), Shelly Gaylord (Dwayne), and Jane Dikes (Warren); his grandchildren: Cammie Gaylord, Billy Swofford, Bailey Dikes, and Lilianna Dikes; and great-grandchildren: Millie Gaylord, Hollie Johnson, Jaxon Johnson, and Emma Swofford. Terry is also survived by his sister Ivorine “Sis” Neu (Roger) of Nampa, Idaho.
Terry was loved and respected by his community, family, friends, and former students. In lieu of giving flowers or donations, the family asks that those who are able, donate to St. Jude’s, as Terry had for many years.
