That’s a sinkhole – UPDATED

UPDATE: The Plumas County Sheriff’s Office is telling motorists to NOT try to use Marble Hot Springs Road as a route to get around the Highway 70 closure that is in place from Highway 49 to 89. Local passenger vehicle traffic can use A23 (Beckwourth-Calpine Road) to access Highway 89.

Traveling east to Reno, motorists are advised to take 89 through Graeagle to Sattley to Sierraville and then Highway 49 to Vinton to link back to Highway 70.

Please follow CHP – Quincy and Caltrans District 2 for the most up-to-date information regarding this closure.

A sinkhole opened up on Highway 70 in the westbound lane west of the airport in Beckwourth this afternoon, March 27, trapping a truck until it could be removed. The roadway has been intermittently open to one way traffic, but now is closed according to Caltrans from Highway 49 to 89.
