Three Audubon Christmas Bird Counts this month

The Plumas Audubon Society is kicking off this year’s Christmas Bird Count in Sierra Valley on Tuesday, Dec. 15. Contact Colin Dillingham ([email protected]) for participation information.

The second count will be in the Lake Almanor area on Thursday, Dec. 17. Contact Ryan Burnett ([email protected]) for information.

The third and final count will be in American Valley (Quincy area) on Saturday, Dec. 19. Contact Darrel Jury ([email protected]) for participation information.

This year, 2020-21, marks the 121st year of the nation’s longest running community science bird project.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, this year’s Christmas Bird Counts will be held differently to protect our community. We will forgo the pre and post count meetings, and instead we will be meeting virtually via ZOOM to compile results. If you are interested in joining one (or all) of the counts, please contact the count circle leader for that section to receive instructions and count packets. Masks and/or social distancing required at all times. Carpooling may only occur in existing familiar or social “pod” groups.

If you have any further questions, email Administrative Assistant Elizabeth Ramsey at [email protected] or call 530-616-8670.
