Trojan softball wins two in a row

Quincy Trojan softball has won both of their opening games at the Pershing Tournament this weekend. The Trojan team got the best of the hosting Pershing Mustangs, 16-7.
Helping to win the game for the Trojans were seniors Vivian Thielman-Gifford and Lexi Baumgartner, each scoring 3 runs each. Senior Trojans Brystol Beatley and Kristin Murphy, and sophomore McKynlee Gay all scored 2 runs each. Single trips across the plate were made by Trojan senior Kayla Thackeray, juniors Hailey Crump and Emma Beatley, and freshman Jenna Peay. Baumgartner hit a double AND a triple. Senior Kristin Murphy stole two bases and Vivian, Kayla, and Addison Gay stole a base each. Trojan pitching was handled by Brystol Beatley and sophomore McKynlee Gay. Beatley struck out 5 batters and Gay struck out two.
The first game of the Pershing Tournament for the girls was a win, 9-2, with the Battle Mountain Longhorns. Lexi Baumgartner led the pack crossing home plate to score three runs. Vivian Thielman-Gifford and McKynlee Gay both scored a pair of runs each. Murphy and Brystol Beatley scored a run each. Vivian hit a triple and Lexi hit a double. Kristin Murphy however hit a home run! McKynlee and Lexi both managed to steal a base from the Longhorn pitchers. Brystol Beatley held the mound for the entire 5-inning game striking out 12 batters! She faced 24 Longhorns and took care of them all with 95 pitches.
