Underburns this week

Plumas National Forest firefighters are planning to underburn several fuel breaks this week, May 22-27, conditions permitting.

The first project, at 151 acres, is located in the Beardsley Grade area of Keddie Ridge. Although smoke will be visible from Indian and Genesee valleys and surrounding area, smoke impacts are anticipated to be minimal. Ignition will take one to two days and some smoke will be visible for up to three days following, clearing in time for the weekend. Red Clover Valley, southeast of Mt. Ingalls, is the location of the second prescribed burn. Firefighters are planning to burn 200 acres beginning Tuesday, if conditions allow. Ignition will take one to two days with some smoke visible for one to two days after, clearing in time for the weekend. Smoke will be visible from Portola, Lake Davis, Genesee Valley and possibly Quincy. Contact the Beckwourth RD at (530) 536-2575 for more information.
