Vehicle hits ice, winds up in Spanish Creek

An icy stretch of Bucks Lake Road was to blame for a  vehicle sliding down an embankment and into a creek on Feb. 6.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Roger Estes of Quincy, was driving his Subaru Legacy at a stated speed of 35-40 mph heading westbound on Bucks Lake Road, just west of Slate Creek Road at about 11:40 a.m.

While driving straight in his lane, he hit an icy patch and lost control of the Subaru.  The Subaru swerved onto the north shoulder and down a steep embankment. It crashed into some hanging branches and then a group of boulders before coming to rest in a shallow section of Spanish Creek.

Estes was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the collision.  Following the collision, Estes remained in his vehicle until emergency personnel were able to assist him back onto the roadway.
