Winter storm warning through Thursday morning

The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning from this afternoon Tuesday, March 5, through Thursday morning, March 7, that will impact Plumas, Lassen and Sierra Counties.

Heavy winter snow is expected with accumulations of 1 to 3 feet, and localized amounts up to 5 feet expected in western Plumas County and Lassen Park. Winds of up to 45 mph are also expected, with a significant reduction in visibility.

In eastern Plumas and Sierra counties, as well as Lassen County, heavy wet snow at the higher elevations, gusty winds and rain at the valley floor are expected. Periods of strong southwest winds of 30-40 mph are expected with gusts of 60-80 mph on the ridges. The National Weather Service warns of the potential for minor flooding on the Susan and Feather rivers due to the expected rains.
