Winter storm warnings extended into Friday

The National Weather Service is extending its winter storm warning through 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, in Plumas, Lassen and Sierra counties.

Heavy snow is expected and travel will be difficult to impossible in western Plumas County/Lassen Park. Additional snow accumulations of 3 to 6 feet are expected. The public is warned that whiteout conditions are possible with strong, gusty winds, and tree branches could fall.

In eastern Plumas County the warning ends a little earlier — at 10 p.m. Thursday above 5,000 feet. Additional snow accumulation of 10 inches is expected above 5,000 feet in eastern Plumas County. Snow levels will continue to rise until Thursday evening when they will return to the valley floor. Strong winds are also expected, which could topple trees.

Travel is not advised unless absolutely necessary.
