Winter weather advisory this weekend

The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory through this Sunday morning at 4 a.m. in Plumas, Lassen and Sierra counties.

Plan on slippery road conditions. Total snow accumulations of 6 to 9 inches, with localized amounts up to 12 inches, are expected. Snow levels are expected to begin around 4,000 to 5,000 feet in western Plumas County and Lassen Park.

In eastern Plumas and Sierra counties, as well as Lassen County, mountains and foothill areas above 5,000-5,500 feet can expect periods of snow starting pre-dawn Saturday lasting through Saturday afternoon. Peak snowfall rates will be Saturday morning. Significant travel impacts are possible with delays and chain controls likely. Road conditions may improve some Saturday afternoon if snow intensities lessen enough.
