Letter to the Editor: Bill Powers has the knowledge needed
Each of the Supervisorial Candidates was asked about fuels reduction/forest management. I thought each of them gave a satisfactory answer. It would be remiss not to mention that one candidate in District 1, has substantial experience in the construction of shaded fuel-breaks, fuels reduction, and firefighting. Bill Powers has been there and done that.
Working out at Crocker, alongside Willow Creek between the current R.E.C. Yard on Hwy. 70, to within a few miles of Smith Peak, and other sites on the Beckwourth District, Bill has done the thinning, pruning, stacking and burning required for timber stand improvement. I believe that Bill was also a staunch advocate for the fire-safe council’s work on defensible space construction recently completed near Portola.
I feel that the in-depth knowledge and appreciation of the work involved in fuels reduction and construction of fuel breaks, makes Bill Powers uniquely qualified to serve as the District 1 Supervisor.
