Letter to the Editor: Funding for Education
ARP Act funding is Federal stimulus money provided in response to COVID -19 as art of the CARES Act of 2020. It is the third round of funding provided for in the CARES Act. (Education, ARP Act Funding, 2022)
It is interesting to note that Plumas Unified School District received a total of $22,251,720 in ARP Act funding between the dates of 7/7/2021 and 10/14/2022. In the same time period, Plumas Charter School received $2,707,861. (Education, ESSER III (3214) Expenditures, 2022), (Education, ESSER III (3213) Expenditures, 2022). I have confirmed with PUSD’s Senior Administrative Services Analyst, Casey Harding, that these funds have been received by the district. To view the spreadsheets issued by the California Department of Education which show values received, go to the following links:
To locate funds specific to Plumas Unified School District and Plumas Charter School: open the link in a browser page, search for “Plumas” in the document search tool, follow the rows across to the “Total Allocated Amount” column.
According to the spreadsheets listed above, as of 10/14/2022 PUSD has spent $914,523 of the funding given them and the Charter School has spent $108,926.
This funding was made available by the COVID-19 Emergency. For the list of allowable uses for these funds, go to the following link:

I am pleased to know that our schools have received this large sum of money. I’m even more pleased that there are very few restrictions regarding how the money is spent. I am hopeful that this money will be spent in ways which directly improve the quality of education each child receives and provides everyone at the schools with a safe and healthy place to work and learn.
