Letter to the Editor: It starts at the top

Meg Upton’s piece  “We are not all ok.” was well thought out. As  40+ years residents here, we immediately recognized the demeanor.  We recently got the same treatment at PG&E.  We have been paying them at the same address for almost 50 years, but they wanted us to “document” our address.  Huh?  They finally came to their senses but not without our spending time on our knees.  We can only assume that his type of mindless autocrat is supported by upper management.

Another sacred cow worthy of comment is  Plumas District Hospital.  Thankfully we have very seldom used their services.  God knows they have had their hands in our pockets for years and are constantly asking for more. An infection required attention and we were referred to the clinic.  BTW you can’t find it.  It is part of the hospital but not on the same street and no clear signage leads you there.

I am aware PDH is held in reverence but we had numerous problems with staff and the higher we climbed the management ladder the more sanctimonious the people got.  To summarize; we talked to the director on a Friday morning and explained our problem.  We also explained we had no callback number, no cell phone, and would she be there at 2 PM to solve our (their, in fact) problem?  She insisted she would fix the problem and she would absolutely be there…… We called back at 2 and she was gone for the day.

We were handed off to her Mr. fix-it who did not.  He actually got quite puffy when we suggested their system was broken.  The staff and administration made a number of egregious errors but the greatest anxiety for us was caused by the self-righteous attitude of the organization.  If you deal with the public in your daily life maybe a little introspection is in order.  We can do better people.
